We understand that a cancer diagnosis can affect many aspects of your life, the relationships with family, friends, and ability to work. Reliable information, practical and emotional support may help minimise this impact and we offer free services for anyone to use. We are proud of what we do and would like to share how we have helped Victorians in 2018.
Cancer Information and Support, 13 11 20
Our experienced cancer nurses are available to talk to anyone affected by cancer. Whether you have cancer, have had it in the past, or have concerns about your cancer risk, they are available to listen and offer support. The care provided is complementary to the information received from your health care team and can increase your confidence in getting the most out of the health system. In 2018, our nurses responded to over 11,060 calls and emails, tailoring the information and support provided to fit an individual’s circumstances.
Holiday Break Program
Holiday Break can provide people affected by cancer with a one-off short getaway, at no cost, often at a time when it is needed most. In 2018 we provided over 120 holiday breaks to people at properties across Victoria.
Our resources and publications
We provide reliable and up-to-date cancer publications including booklets and fact sheets. These resources are intended to complement what you receive from the health care teams. In 2018 over 230,620 people either downloaded or ordered our resources and publications.
Providing peer support
Speaking with someone else can help to reduce the sense of isolation often experienced by patients and carers. In 2018, we recognised 115 Cancer Support Groups across Victoria, connected 470 people with trained volunteers to speak one-to-one with those who have ‘been there before’ and helped facilitate education programs attended by 620 Victorians going through treatment or living with cancer.
