Quit
Cancer Council Victoria
Quit aims to create a tobacco-free Victoria. Its mission is to end the tobacco toll by discouraging young people from becoming addicted to nicotine, and supporting all people to become tobacco-free through the collaborative design and implementation of evidence-based policies and programs. It has been the principal agency for population-level tobacco control in Victoria for 30 years. Quit is a program of Cancer Council Victoria, funded by Cancer Council Victoria, VicHealth, the Victorian Department of Health and the Australian Government's Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Branch. Quit provides extensive information and resources for both the general public and health professionals to help people try to stop smoking, including personal stories, fact sheets and distraction techniques. It also runs Quitline, a highly effective telephone-support service; QuitMail, an email support service; QuitTxt, which sends SMS messages designed to help people prepare to quit, maintain motivation and stay on track; and QuitCoach, which provides a personalised quitting plan.
