Oncology services are provided from a well-equipped unit co-located in the Western District Health Service Cancer and Dialysis Centre on the ground floor of the Hamilton Base Hospital.The unit provides a comprehensive range of chemotherapy and other related treatments. Treatment is carried out under the supervision of local physicians in conjunction with oncology specialists in major centres. Chemotherapy is administered by nursing staff trained principally at the Peter McCallum Institute. Up to six clients a day can be catered for in a comfortable and relaxing environment. Information, support and resources for patients are available from the Cancer Link Nurse. Support groups are also run for patients and their families.Other services provided include cancer at home services, a symptom urgent review clinic service and breast care supportive services.
