Kara has been working as a nurse for ten years with a focus on surgical oncology and cancer care. Most recently, Kara has specialised in head and neck cancers and works as a nurse coordinator at a metropolitan hospital. In this role, Kara provides support to patients and their families, from referral through to treatment, then ongoing care once treatments ends.
Kara has recently joined Cancer Council two days a week as a cancer nurse on 13 11 20. Being passionate about educating those affected by cancer to be best informed about their cancer trajectory, in her role on 13 11 20, she ensures that each caller receives the information and support they personally require.
Kate currently works at as an oncology nurse in an in-patient ward and works two days on 13 11 20 while also studying for a Diploma of Counselling. Kate has extensive experience in nursing and supporting people affected by cancer, which enables her to guide callers through their anxieties and fears and answer questions they have about cancer or treatment options. Kate was keen to find new ways to provide more practical support and information in her role as a nurse. She has a long-held respect for the work of Cancer Council and her inclusion to a team where everyone shares the drive to help others gives her a sense of accomplishment.
Nikki has extensive experience in clinical nursing and works two days in a Day Therapy Unit, where she is alongside patients undergoing chemotherapy and clinical trials. Nikki recently joined Cancer Council and works two days a week on 13 11 20 where she has an opportunity to engage with callers in a meaningful and helpful way. Nikki enjoys the time on the phone where she can give her entire attention to each conversation and the caller’s underlying concerns. Her work at Cancer Council has also given her a wider understanding of the range of services and programs available. She now passes this information onto patients in the clinic.
