Impact under the microscope

Gifts in Wills supporters go behind-the-scenes in research lab.

In May, people who have or are considering including a gift in their Will to Cancer Council Victoria were invited on a laboratory tour to learn about the ground-breaking research underway - seeing first-hand the impact a gift in their Will can have.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the WEHI (Walter and Eliza Hall Institute) lab tour,” commented Jill who has left a gift in her Will to Cancer Council Victoria. “I had a great time and was really impressed with the information about Cancer Council Victoria funding the ‘Blue Sky’ research that others wouldn’t fund.”

In 2022, 61 per cent of all the research funded by Cancer Council Victoria was made possible by people who had the wisdom, compassion, and foresight to include a gift in their Will.

Dr Sarah Best’s description on improving neurosurgery by determining the in-depth molecular characterisation of glioma was a real highlight. The research is looking to design fluorescent drugs that are activated specifically by tumour energy pathways and can be seen by neurosurgeons to improve surgical resection of low-grade glioma.

If you are thinking of or have included a gift in your Will to Cancer Council Victoria, please contact our Gifts in Wills team at giftsinwills@cancervic.org.au for exclusive invitations to see the work you can support.
