Every 15 minutes in Victoria, someone hears the words ‘you have cancer’. That’s 96 families shattered by a cancer diagnosis every day of the year.

But what if we can stop people getting cancer in the first place?

By investing in Cancer Council Victoria, you can help us deliver innovative new projects that will reduce the impact of cancer for all Victorians.  Join us in safeguarding the health of Victorians for generations to come.

About us

Cancer Council Victoria has been saving lives for more than 80 years.

Cancer Council Victoria is a non-profit cancer organisation with an international reputation for innovative work in cancer research, prevention, and support.

Our mission is to prevent cancer, empower patients and save lives.

We are a trusted non-profit organisation with a proven track record in cancer prevention, support and research, saving more than 6,000 lives a year.

  • Since the 1980s, our iconic Slip-Slop-Slap message and SunSmart programs have helped reduce melanoma rates in the under 40 age group, preventing more than 43,000 cancers between 1988 and 2010 alone.
  • Plain packaging on cigarettes was introduced in 2012 as a world-first initiative that, combined with our Quit public education campaigns, marketing restrictions and smoke-free areas, has been effective in reducing daily smoking rates to 10.7% - less than half the daily smoking rate in 1995.
  • From 1991-2017, Cancer Council Victoria delivered the PapScreen Victoria program that encouraged women to screen. This contributed to cervical cancer deaths reducing by 68% by 2015. Victoria is now on track to be the first jurisdiction in the world to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health issue.
  • A $1 million gift allowed us to build the evidence needed to unlock $10 million in federal government funding to raise awareness about bowel cancer screening across Australia.

Our work

We have made great progress in cancer prevention, detection and treatment, however, there is still a lot of work to be done to tackle the leading causes of cancer. But we can’t do this work alone.

We want to change health and regulatory systems to deliver better health outcomes for all Victorians. We will use research and evidence from our prevention work to advise governments on the best value investments for cancer prevention and best practice policy that will improve cancer outcomes into the future.

We want to work with you to improve cancer prevention, treatment and care to save thousands of lives.
