Community Advisory Network

If you’ve had a cancer diagnosis, or have cared for someone who has, then you have ‘lived experience’ and your insights can provide valuable guidance for the work we do.

Cancer Council’s Community Advisory Network brings together consumer representatives—community members with lived experience of cancer—to help shape our work and improve outcomes for others, contributing to activities from reviewing cancer materials and projects to advising on research, advocacy and service improvements, ensuring our programs, policies and advocacy are grounded in real experience and reflect community needs.

Ways to get involved may include:

  • sharing your story to illustrate your experience
  • providing feedback on Cancer Council information or support services
  • informing research funding decision-making
  • joining committees that steer our programs and research
  • participating in discussion groups on important issues
  • sharing insights to support our policy and advocacy activities
  • speaking at events or in some cases doing an interview with media

Cancer Council is working to improve cancer outcomes for all Victorians, but we can’t do this alone and need your help.

Register your details to join the Community Advisory Network and we’ll be in touch with opportunities to get involved.

I like getting involved at various levels of the organisation as it helps me understand how the organisation works. It also stimulates my brain.  I want to ensure that the organisation hears the voice of the consumer and community whenever they undertake any activity.”

Cancer Consumer-led Research Partnership

Cancer Council is proud to be involved the Statewide Cancer Consumer-led Research Partnership, a pioneering initiative elevating the voices of Victorians affected by cancer to drive positive changes in the healthcare system.

In partnership with four other organisations, we’re aiming to enhance the way the cancer sector engages with consumers, through:

  • collaboration
  • consumer-led approaches, and
  • the development of a statewide lived experience leaders.

Key initiatives included developing an immersive consumer education and mentor training program, Lead from Lived Experience: Enhancing Cancer Care, where 21 Victorians undertook online learning, workshops and a 10-week placement to build their confidence in navigating the cancer sector.
