Many
advances in cancer research have been the result of clinical trials. Yet only about 6% of Victorians with
cancer have been recruited to a trial, and rates have remained static for more
than a decade.
Cancer
Council’s Victorian Cancer Trials Link (VCTL)
website, allows
people to search every treatment trial across the state, including those run
out of rural and regional hospitals.
We’re also
excited to announce that thanks to your support, we’ve now launched Trial
Connect, which links cancer patients with trained peers who have been through a
clinical trial so that they can discuss what to expect – all they have to do is
call Cancer Council on 13 11 20.
Todd Harper,
Cancer Council Victoria CEO said “I would encourage any patient, carer, family
member or friend of someone diagnosed with cancer to jump on the VCTL website
and see what trials are available in their area. It could make all the
difference.”
“Every
advance in cancer care has been a result of people putting their hands up to
take part in a clinical trial and help improve outcomes not just for the
patients of today but those in the future.”
