My mum has always been the type of person to never give up; she does crosswords and puzzles and always wants to find the solution before finishing. Unfortunately, in this particular situation the solution wasn't that easy to work out.
It all started about 5 months ago when her cheeks swelled up and she looked like she had a tooth ache. She complained of a sore neck and blamed it on the pillows she slept on.
We all thought nothing of it, but one day my uncles told my mum it might be something wrong with her kidneys. My mum made an appointment to see the doctor and he sent her off for scans.
The week after she was told she had a tumour on her lung and around a blood vessel, so the blood wasn't getting up to her brain like it needed to.
The Friday of that week she went to Sunshine Hospital where she spent the night there.
I went home and, like any child would, I just cried.
My mum was then diagnosed with lung cancer on 3rd October 2009.
