Lawn bowls charity days

Register your local bowls club to hold a Bowl Over Cancer charity day and help us fight cancer!

Every dollar raised on the day will help Cancer Council fund important cancer research, prevention programs and support services for all Victorians facing cancer.

It's easy to get your club involved. Simply register and follow these simple steps:

1. Decide on your competition format - pairs, triples or fours.
2. Choose a date to hold your event - maybe combine it with a competition already in your club calendar.

To help raise funds, why not advertise the event and charge an entry fee, hold a raffle or bingo competition, or get the kids involved with craft activities and face painting?

All clubs will receive a small prize to give to the winner of their charity day.

Castlemaine bowls ‘em over!

For the past 7 years, Castlemaine Bowls Club has been raising money for Cancer Council Victoria through a tournament. Since it first began, the Castlemaine ‘Bowl ‘em over for cancer' day has brought in over $6,500. Last year, organisers and participants raised an incredible $1186.50, making it the most successful event yet. An impressive effort!

The tournament holds special importance for chief organiser Brian Medbury, whose family has been touched by cancer. The club donated its venue and the greens for the event, and the competition was run as drawn mixed triples with a lead, second and a skip. Funds were raised through competition entry fees, a raffle and a reverse auction. Members had a lot of fun!

Avenel Bowling Club employed a different method to get everyone involved with their ‘Bowls Fun Day' tournament. Everyone had to dress in pink to show their support or risk a fine for dress code infringement! Participants were charged $5 entry and this included bowls for those that didn't own any. This tournament raised $500.
