When Cancer Won't Go Away

These free forums provide people with advanced cancer, and their friends and families, the chance to speak with others in similar situations.

We developed When Cancer Won't Go Away forums (formerly known as Living Well forums) in 1997 in response to the lack of support and information available for those affected by advanced breast cancer. Based on this success, in October 2003, it was decided to offer these free forums to people with any type of advanced cancer and their families.

Topics covered

  • Financial and legal issues

A financial advisor discusses issues relevant to long-term illness, including insurance (e.g. travel insurance), power of attorney, money management and access to credit and superannuation.
  • Treatments and medical supports

A medical oncologist will talk about current treatments and different medical supports available for advanced cancer. Questions such as What happens when a person presents with an advanced cancer diagnosis? and Clinical trials - what are they, who do they benefit? are discussed.
  • This session is followed by lunch, where participants chat with others going through similar experiences.
  • Family issues and living with uncertainty

This session is conducted by a psychologist, who talks about coping with cancer and living with uncertainty.
