Internet support groups

Cancer Connections - Support - Community - InformationThe Cancer Connections website is a national online community where those affected by cancer can share their experiences and thoughts with others. It includes forums, blogs, live chat events, a calendar, social networks, and private groups. Registration is required to leave a post.

We also run private internet support groups for people affected by cancer via the www.cancerconnections.com.au online community. These are especially good for people who have trouble travelling and those who prefer the privacy and anonymity of online communication.

These groups link via private blogs, forums and regular, professionally-facilitated live chat sessions. They're available to anyone living in Australia. People who are interested in participating have an initial chat with the group facilitator, so they learn how the group works, and whether an online group will be a 'good fit'.

The following internet support groups are currently available:

  • 'Ongoing': for people with recurrent or advanced cancer
  • 'In Touch': for people who have completed their cancer treatment
  • Mouth, Nose and Throat Cancer
  • Gynaecological Cancer
  • Cancer in My Family: for people at high risk of developing cancer because of a strong family history
  • Expressive Writing: for those wanting to explore a cancer experience through poetry, prose and short stories.

If you're interested in being part of an internet support group, please contact the group facilitator on csg@cancervic.org.au or call the Cancer Council Helpline on 13 11 20.

www.CancerConnections.com.au is an initiative of Cancer Council NSW.
