The Scientist
Digital photograph & CD of 'The Scientist Song' by Coldplay
This was created on the first anniversary of my dad's passing. I was sad that afternoon and needed a release, so I made a picture of how I felt that day. This piece is named after the Coldplay song that, to me, has the same meaning as the photo.
This photo of Ben and his dad is a very powerful image in itself and the music added another dimension that really deepens your experience of his experience. What I think is powerful about it is its not just about his experience, it becomes your own experience which is actually the essence of all great art. In this generous artwork, Ben shares his vunerability; that is a true contribution to us as viewers. Judge Deborah Halpern, Artist.
The Memory
Photographic collage
I myself have never experienced a family member with cancer but many close friends have dealt with the illness. It has taught me to not pass opportunities that come by and that sickness does not choose its victims. I love to take photographs and thought, pictures preserve images of sad times and happy, and if you have the picture, you will forever have the memory.
Even though Jessica hasn't personally experienced cancer at close quarters, her empathy for people with cancer is apparent and the creative way she has dealt with her idea is very effective. Judge Deborah Halpern, Artist.
