Thank-you to all the artists who entered this years’ Cancer Council Arts Awards - we received an overwhelming and record breaking 542 entries from all over Australia!

Melbourne Arts Awards Ceremony & Exhibition Opening - Sunday July 19

A wonderful day was had by all involved on Sunday July 19th, when we held the annual Arts Awards Ceremony at St Michaels Uniting Church in Collins Street Melbourne to award the outstanding entrants in each category and also acknowledge the works of all entrants who have shared thier cancer experiences which such honesty and courage. Following the ceremony, all then moved next door to the foyer of the 120 Collins Street Building to for the offcial opening of the Melbourne Exhibition. We estimate there were 450 people in attendance. Photos of the ceremony and exhibtion opening are coming soon.

The respected artists on our judging panel have once again done an amazing job short-listing and commending entries. Every year these high-profile artists donate their time and expertise to ensure that the Arts Awards remains a highly regarded program. 

  • Film: Deb Verhoeven, writer, broadcaster, film critic and lecturer
  • Visual art: Kelly Gellatly, Curator of Contemporary Art, National Gallery of Victoria
  • Short story: Arnold Zable, acclaimed writer and story teller
  • Poetry: Jennifer Harrison, renowned poet
  • Indigenous art: Lee Darroch, Yorta Yorta woman, Indigenous artist and owner of Gurranyin Arts
  • Children's art: Mitch Vane, illustrator and painter
  • Children's writing: Tony Wilson, children's author

All the winning entries and a selection of other artwork were displayed at the Cancer Council Victoria Arts Awards Exhibition in Melbourne on July 19. The tour now continues throughout regional Victoria.
