Executive committee (board)

The Executive Committee is responsible for the overall corporate governance of the Cancer Council. It approves strategic directions in cancer control, and the organisational structure, policies and processes required to implement these strategies.

This is the membership of our Executive Committee for 2008.

Professor Margaret Hamilton, AO, Chair
BA, DipSocStuds (Melb), MSW (Mich)

Margaret Hamilton holds a professorial appointment at the School of Public Health, the University of Melbourne; is Chairperson of the Multiple and Complex Needs Panel, a Victorian statutory body; and is Co-deputy Chairperson of the Australian National Council on Drugs. She has been an Executive Committee member since 1998, and is a member of the Board of the Victorian Breast Cancer Research Consortium.

Dr Michael Dally
MBChB, BSc, FRANZCR

Michael Dally is a principal specialist and honorary senior lecturer in radiation oncology at The Alfred and Monash University. He is the Head of the Stereotactic Radiosurgery Service at the William Buckland Radiotherapy Centre and is an examiner for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists. He joined the Executive Committee in 2005. He has served on various committees under the auspices of the Cancer Council, including the Victorian Cooperative Oncology Group and its gynaecological and neuro-oncology cancer committees.

Ms Saveria Dimasi
BA (Econ) (Hons), LLM (Melb)

Saveria Dimasi is the Director, Legal Services at The University of Melbourne. She has been an Executive Committee member since 2003, and is President of the Victorian Breast Cancer Research Consortium.

Professor Peter Fuller
MBBS, BMedSc (Hons), PhD, FRACP

Peter Fuller is National Health and Medical Research Council Senior Principal Research Fellow at Prince Henry's Institute of Medical Research, Director of the Endocrinology Unit at the Monash Medical Centre, and Professorial Fellow in Medicine and Biochemistry at Monash University. He has been an Executive Committee member since 2003.

Mr Peter Griffin, President
BCom (Melb), ASIA

Peter Griffin is a director of Rothschild Australia Limited, Bell Potter Group, Global Mining Investments Limited, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and the Melbourne Community Foundation. He has been a member of the Executive Committee and Finance Committee since 1993. He is also on the Board of the Victorian Breast Cancer Research Consortium.

Dr Stewart A Hart
MBBS, FRACS

Stewart Hart is a surgical oncologist in private practice specialising in breast disease. He is Head of the Breast Surgical Service at Monash Medical Centre, Southern Health, Director of the Monash BreastScreen program, and Consultant Surgeon to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Breast Service. He has been an Executive Committee member since 2003.

Mr Peter Ingham, Chair, Finance Committee
BCom (Hons), MBA (Melb)

Peter Ingham is a retired businessman, formerly Chief Executive and Proprietor of The Craftsman Press, and is currently a member of the Board of Management of MAB Corporation Pty Ltd. He has been an Executive Committee member since 2001 and is Chair of the Investment and Property Sub-Committee.

Mrs Avis Macphee
AAIMS

Avis Macphee, a retired medical scientist, is the founder and coordinator of the Breast Cancer Support Group of the Bone Marrow Donor Institute Limited. Her current appointments include membership of the Scientific Committee and Vice Presidency of the Board of Management of the Victorian Breast Cancer Research Consortium Inc. and membership of the Victorian Cancer Research Tissue Bank Consortium Committee. She also sits as a community representative for the Breast Cancer Network Australia and the Breast Cancer Action Group on several committees.

Ms Louise Milne-Roch
RN (Div 1), BA, BBus, PGDE, MAICD, MRCNA, MANZCMHN, AFCHSE

Louise Milne-Roch is Chief Executive Officer of the Nurses Board of Victoria. She has extensive experience across a number of health sectors and in other commercial settings. She has been an Executive Committee member since 2004.

Mr A Sandy Murdoch, Chair, Appeals Committee
BEcon, DDA, SIA, ASA

Sandy Murdoch is a businessman and is director of Computershare Ltd and a number of private companies. He has been an Executive Committee member since 2004.

Mr Michael O'Bryan
LLB (Hons), BSc (Melb)

Michael O'Bryan is a barrister at the Victorian Bar, practising in the areas of corporate and commercial law, trade practices law and administrative law, and is a member and past chairman of the Trade Practices Committee of the Law Council of Australia. He has been an Executive Committee member since 2003.

Associate Professor Andrew Roberts
MBBS, FRACP, FRCPA, PhD

Andrew Roberts is a Clinical Haematologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and National Health and Medical Research Council Practitioner Fellow at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research. He has been an Executive Committee member since 2004, and is Chair of the Medical and Scientific Committee.

Ms Andrea Waters
BComm, ACA

Andrea Waters is a partner at KPMG, specialising in providing audit services to the financial services sector, and Head of KPMG's International Financial Reporting Standards Convergence Practice. She has been an Executive Committee member since 2004, and is a member of the Finance Committee and Chair of the Audit and Compliance Subcommittee.

Professor Joe Trapani
MBBS, FRACP, PhD

Professor Trapani is Deputy Director of Research at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, where he co-heads the Cancer Immunology Program. His research interests include the immunopathology of viral diseases and cancer immunotherapy. Joe is a Senior Principal Research Fellow of the NHMRC and has written 160 primary research papers, reviews and book chapters on histocompatibility, apoptosis and cancer immunotherapy.
