Biomedical research

A cancer research scientistBiomedical research is mainly scientific laboratory work conducted by scientists and medical doctors. Each has a highly specialised area and may be investigating basic biological processes, genetic links, immune responses, or developing potential new treatments. Laboratories are found in university departments, hospitals and medical research institutes.

We support more than 90 biomedical researchers by providing grants, fellowships and scholarships. Our Research Management Unit coordinates the funding selection processes with independent expert advice and our Medical and Scientific Committee, Director and Executive Committee to ensure the best projects are funded.

We also support the Victorian Cancer Biobank and the Victorian Breast Cancer Research Consortium.
