Targeting pro-survival Bcl-2 family proteins for cancer therapy: exploring & defining new applications

Lead researcher

Prof Andrew Roberts, Prof David Huang

Institution
Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research

Years funded
2013-2015

Some cancers are currently incurable, and discovering new therapies that work in different ways to existing treatments is necessary to overcome this problem. Professors Roberts and Huang and colleagues are pioneers of a novel drug treatment approach that targets a common "Achilles' heel" of one blood cancer, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.

In this project, we aim to extend the application of these new drugs to other cancers, including multiple myeloma, acute leukaemia and melanoma.
