Development of targeted therapies for cancer

Lead researcher

Associate Professor Grant McArthur

Institution
Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Divisions of Research & Clinical Haematology/Medical Oncology

Years funded
2006-2010

This project will identify new treatments for cancer and determine groups of patients who will benefit most from these treatments.

The development of new cancer treatments that specifically target genes or proteins in cancer cells is an exciting new development in the battle against cancer. This program aims to identify new treatments against specific targets in cancer and then use sophisticated molecular imaging with PET scans (a specialised type of X-rays) to monitor responses to these treatments.

The program will also identify new methods for predicting which patients will benefit most from these treatments, so in the future patients will have more certainty of the outcome of their cancer treatment.
