The Australian Synchrotron became available for routine microbeam radiation therapy
(MRT) experiments during 2011. The availability of this world class facility in
Australia opens the door to studies that have the potential to substantially
improve radiotherapy for cancer, as well as advancing understanding of
fundamental radiobiology.
This project will investigate why MRT appears to give
superior results to conventional radiotherapy, and start to establish criteria
for clinical use of MRT to treat cancers.
