Cancer Council Victoria was proud to welcome Dr Giota Mitrou, Director of Research, Policy and Innovation at the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) International, to our Melbourne office following her participation in the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit.

Dr Mitrou’s visit was an exciting opportunity to strengthen global partnerships in cancer prevention research. During her time with us, she met with members of our Cancer Epidemiology Division, providing a valuable opportunity to showcase Cancer Council Victoria’s current epidemiological research projects, several of which are supported by grants from WCRF. These collaborations are helping drive innovative research that aims to reduce the global burden of cancer.

The visit included a presentation by PhD student, Frances Albers, whose research has also been supported by a WCRF grant. Dr Mitrou provided valuable feedback and insights to Frances as she prepares for her PhD completion, reinforcing the importance of mentorship and knowledge sharing.

We are grateful to Dr Mitrou and WCRF for their ongoing commitment to advancing research to inform cancer prevention.
