Stomach and oesophageal cancers are malignant tumours found in the tissues of the stomach or oesophagus. They are two separate cancers that can develop in any part of either organ. There are different types of both cancers.
Stomach and oesophageal cancers are usually slow-growing. They may grow for many years before any symptoms are felt.
Incidence
Each year, about 590 people in Victoria are diagnosed with stomach cancer.
Oesophageal cancer affects about 330 people in Victoria each year.
