One of our many major research projects is currently looking to use DNA testing to better help predict the risk of melanoma, breast cancer, bowel cancer and prostate cancers, which make up 50 percent of all cancers in Australia.

The project is headed by leading expert Dr Sibel Saya, who is actively looking at ways to improve cancer outcomes with earlier detection by offering DNA testing at general practitioner clinics.
“This research aims to determine if multi-cancer genomic risk testing is acceptable and feasible in primary care and if it will positively impact a patient’s screening behaviours,” she says.
“Other early studies have shown similar patterns of benefit for targeted melanoma, prostate, and breast cancer screening. If we can identify people most at risk of common cancers and target screening accordingly, the overall burden of cancer on all our lives will be drastically reduced.”
