Cancer is challenging. Finding the right support services is easier with the new online My Cancer Guide.
Cancer Council Victoria recently launched its new online cancer services directory - My Cancer Guide. The online guide provides people affected with cancer, their family members, and others with easy access to over 450 support services across Victoria.
The original Cancer Services Guide, first developed in 2012, is one of Cancer Council Victoria's most frequently downloaded resources. Over 17,000 hard copies of the guide have been distributed throughout Victoria since its inception.
With the creation of an online directory, the new name My Cancer Guide reflects how the new look guide will empower people to find cancer support that is right for them. Information is now searchable by cancer type and postcode, helping people to find support options close to their home; this is particularly important for people in regional and rural areas. If people can't find the information they are looking for, Cancer Council Victoria's cancer nurses are contactable by phone or email.
"In creating an online, searchable guide it is now easier for people affected by cancer to find information that is relevant to them. It also enables us to have a sustainable platform to easily update information when new services become available," said Alexandra Nolte, Project Lead.
My Cancer Guide provides information to help people make informed choices about the services they engage with and helps them to navigate the healthcare system. This guide complements the cancer support and information services provided by Cancer Council Victoria's 13 11 20 cancer nurses.
"We will continue to produce printed versions of the guide for those who need it making accessible for all."
At the heart of developing the online directory is the desire to have information about cancer support services across Victoria at people's fingertips.
