When Eden Foster, MP for Mulgrave, was diagnosed with lymphoma, she turned her personal battle into a mission to help others.
Determined to make a difference, Eden organised a fundraising morning tea for Cancer Council Victoria, to raise vital funds for cancer research, prevention programs, and support services that ensure no one has to face cancer alone.
The event gained strong support, with state MPs, local mayors, and councillors attending to support Eden. At the morning tea Eden’s close friend and colleague, Gabrielle Williams, MP for Dandenong, announced that she would shave her head in honour of Eden’s cancer journey if she could raise $10,000.
Gabrielle’s pledge resonated with her community and beyond and she quickly surpassed her goal, raising over $17,000. True to her word, Gabrielle shaved her head in October at Parliament House, surrounded by fellow MPs and other dignitaries who cheered her on.
“Cancer touches everyone’s life in some way, and I wanted to show Eden that she’s not alone,” Gabrielle shared. “This was my way of standing with her and supporting the incredible work of Cancer Council Victoria.”
Moved by her friend’s gesture, Eden expressed her gratitude: “It means the world to me to see this outpouring of support, not just for me, but for everyone affected by cancer. Together, we’re making a real impact."
