How we helped in 2017

Monday 18 December, 2017

Cancer Council Victoria’s Cancer Information and Support Service offers a range of free programs and services to improve the quality of life for all Victorian’s affected by cancer. We understand a cancer diagnosis can affect your relationships with family, friends, and your workplace. We are here to provide reliable information, practical and emotional support to help you.

We are proud of what we do and we would like to share the below achievements with you:

Cancer Information and Support, 13 11 20

Our experienced cancer nurses are available to talk to anyone affected by cancer. Whether you have cancer, have had it in the past, or have concerns about your cancer risk, they are available to listen and offer support. The care provided is complementary to the information received from the treating team and can increase your confidence in getting the most out of the healthcare system.

In 2017, our nurses responded to over 11,429 calls and emails, tailoring the information and support provided to fit the individual’s circumstances. This included access to information, linking with emotion, practical or financial support services and peer support from others who have been through a similar experience.

Holiday Break Program

Cancer Council Victoria's Holiday Break Program can provide people affected by cancer with a one-off short getaway, at no cost. In 2017 we provided over 104 holiday breaks to people across Victoria.

Our resources and publications

We provide reliable and up-to-date cancer publications including booklets and factsheets. These resources are intended to complement information from healthcare teams. In 2017 261,183 reources and publications were distributed throughout Victoria.

Survivorship Program

In 2017 we introduced an eight week telehealth group based education and supportive care program. This program empowers people to improve their health and wellbeing, as they move from treatment to recovery and wellness in regional Victoria. This is part of our Wellness and Life after Cancer program. So far, we have delivered over 3 sessions and we are excited to continue our work in 2018.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us in 2017. We look forward to supporting all Victorians in 2018.
