Thank you to everyone who came together to celebrate Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea this May and June. Your generosity and support raised vital funds for cancer research while bringing the community together to remember and support those with cancer.
Sadly, all of us are likely to be affected by cancer at some point in our lives. Everyone who hosts or attends a Biggest Morning Tea event has their own personal reason for getting involved. As we toured the thousands of morning teas held this year, we heard more from the many families, communities and workplaces that have been personally touched by cancer, with each morning tea being as unique as the story or stories behind it.
This year, nearly 6,000 morning teas were held in people’s homes, community groups and workplaces. The Rialto Towers in the CBD brought together 100 members of the Rialto community in a profound gesture of unity for people affected by cancer.
“Our collective efforts brewed more than just tea and friendship,” expressed Ragen from Rialto. “They’ve infused the warmth and generosity of the Rialto community spirit to support vital research, prevention, and support services.”
At the SMIL Heritage Arts and Culture Group, cups of tea were raised to honour cancer survivors and cherish the memories of those who are no longer here. SMIL stands for San Marco in Lamis, a small town in the Puglia region of Italy, and the group in this photo are all descendants from that town.
Meanwhile, one of Cancer Council Victoria’s new team members, Grant, spoke at an event in his hometown of Lilydale where he was inspired by the passion of his local community’s commitment to supporting people affected by cancer.
“It was really special to play a small part on the day and provide people in my community with some insight about the work we do, the research we fund, and how the funds raised will make an impact,” said Grant.
Putting their own spin on the day, Collins Square hosted a Mad Hatter-themed themed event bringing the community at Collins Square together for a cause close to their hearts.
"We are proud to continue our longstanding partnership with Cancer Council Victoria to raise essential funds for cancer research and support services through major precinct experiences like Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea,” said Mary, Collins Square.
Thank you to everyone who took part in Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea this year. Each cup of tea poured, and every conversation shared at your event has raised vital funds for cancer prevention, research and support, and is brewing hope for a cancer-free tomorrow.
