No stranger to organising events, Jean from Peninsula Grange Retirement Village in Mornington, is dusting off the apron as she and the team get set to welcome more than 130 people in what will be their twelfth Biggest Morning Tea.
After losing her husband to prostate cancer, Jean knows all too well the impact a cancer diagnosis can have.
“We all know someone who’s been touched by cancer,” said Jean. “This is our way to show our support and raise money to help people with cancer and support cancer research.”
The event has become a highlight for residents and staff at Peninsula Grange, raising thousands of dollars since it started in 2014.
This year, with the support of the organising committee, Jean is aiming to grow the event even more. “We’ll start early to get donations for raffle prizes and auction items, and we’ll invite another guest speaker to help make the event more memorable.”
When asked what her advice is for someone organising their first Biggest Morning Tea, Jean said: “Go for it! It’s a lot of work depending on how many people you have.
The joy and the pleasure of supporting something worthwhile outweighs the hard work. It’s a pleasure to be involved and do our bit to contribute.”
