Hope was in full bloom all over the state this August with thousands giving their all for people affected by cancer. So, to everyone who donated, dressed in yellow, held a morning tea, took a cold plunge for the Daffodil Day Dip, volunteered, or bought bunches of daffodils, thank you for making this an unforgettable Daffodil Day!
Kicking things off at Bunnings Warehouses throughout Melbourne metro and regional Victoria was just the beginning. We’d like to give a big shout out to the many Bunnings staff who got into the spirit of Daffodil Day by pinning daffodil pins to their aprons. And to all the families, DIYers and trolley doggies who grabbed a bunch of daffodils or stopped for a chat on their way through the aisles!

Around the Melbourne CBD, flower carts overflowed with daffodils at Collins Square, Collins Place and Flinders Street station and another Insta-worthy display at Rialto Towers drew in visitors from all over. The sight of yellow-clad volunteers and supporters zigzagging through the city with bunches of daffodils clutched in their arms, ensured a message of hope was shared far and wide.

“This year’s daffodil installation is a reminder to the many thousands of our Collins Square community who pass through our Main Retail Plaza that together we can raise the funds needed to beat cancer,” said Emily Carroll from Collins Square’s Walker Corporation.
“Every year, the Collins Square community digs deep for Daffodil Day, and we’re proud to back the incredible work the Cancer Council does for the fifth consecutive year.”
One of our Daffodil Day events coordinators, Karli (pictured), shared some of her favourite moments from the epic two days:

🌼 “Delivering 150 bunches up to an awesome young architect’s penthouse office so he could fill the place with daffs and create the shape of breasts on the rooftop, which he filmed with his drone!”
🌼 “A young woman buying 21 bunches in honour of her brother – she then delivers each bunch to 21 of their mutual friends.”
🌼 “Spending time with a lovely volunteer who joins me every year for Daffodil Day.”
🌼 “Our gorgeous corporate volunteer teams who are always so generous, grateful and pumped to be involved.”
🌼 “A number of young guys this year coming in to buy flowers for their mums.”

Looking to the chilly Victorian waters, yellow-capped heads bobbed along the surface as even more people took the plunge for a Daffodil Day Dip. Around $500,000 was raised through this challenge alone, thanks to all the brave Victorians who have whole-heartedly embraced the movement. We look forward to this becoming another beloved annual tradition for many!
Cancer takes so much from so many. But Daffodil Day is a time to give support, hugs, flowers, home-cooked meals, and hope for all of us affected by cancer. And through the generosity of so many of you, over $1 million was raised along the way! This is so important for ongoing cancer research that is discovering new and more effective ways to save lives from cancer.
Together, we’re not only giving hope, we’re growing it!
