Part of Peninsula Health, the major provider of healthcare services on the Mornington Peninsula, Rosebud Hospital is committed to providing safe, personal, effective and connected care for patients. The oncology team receives more than 400 new referrals every year and has a catchment area of approximately 300,000 people from the Frankston and Mornington Peninsula region. The team holds eight multidisciplinary team (MDTs) meetings every fortnight, bringing together specialist clinicians, surgeons, nurses, allied health professionals and research staff, to provide the best treatment recommendation for every patient and reduce unwanted variation in cancer management.Ongoing focus is on patient-centred care providing timely evidence-based treatments aimed at reducing recurrence and improving survival rates, particularly for those with early stage disease. Patients are educated about their condition and treatment to empower them and improve self-management. Strong ties with palliative care services assist in the care of those patients with advanced disease.Partnering with the Victorian Government and Southern Melbourne Integrated Cancer Service (SMICS), the oncology unit has participated in various service improvement initiatives, most recently the Geriatric Oncology Survivorship Pilot.
