Run by trained health professionals and supported by Cancer Council Victoria, the Managing Cancer workshops empower people affected by cancer with useful skills and helpful information.Available for people who have been diagnosed with cancer or know someone who has, the education program provides information about what cancer is and how treatment decisions are made; the various symptoms, cancer treatments and side effects; the doctor-patient relationship; how to access the cancer services available; information on important factors like diet and exercise; myths about cancer; relationships, self-esteem and body image; and coping with loss and grief.It also provides the opportunity to share stories and tips with others going through a similar experience. Programs are held in most public and private Melbourne hospitals, some community health centres and many country hospitals and health services.
