Frankston Hospital is part of Peninsula Health, which is the major provider of health care services on the Mornington Peninsula. The oncology unit at Peninsula Health continually strives to improve its care and services, and partners with the Victorian government and Southern Melbourne Integrated Cancer Service (SMICS) to achieve this mission. Ongoing focus is on patient-centred care and providing timely evidence-based treatments aimed at reducing recurrence and improving survival rates, particularly for those with early stage disease. Patients are educated about their condition and treatment to empower them and improve self-management. Both outpatient and inpatient care is offered through the hospital, as well as a chemotherapy day unit, clinical trials and research, community services and specialist nurses. Strong ties with the hospital's palliative care services assist in the care of those patients with advanced disease.
