Thank you Dry July

Thursday 16 February, 2017
Dry July

Thank you to all Dry July participants who took the challenge in 2016 to give up alcohol for one month. It was a grand fundraising effort, and as a result, Cancer Council Victoria can embark on three projects which aim to provide support to reduce the burden of cancer.

Last year was the first time Cancer Council Victoria was nominated as a beneficiary of Dry July fundraising. By giving up alcohol for the month of July and raising funds, Dry July participants had a chance to notice their own drinking habits and the value of a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

"It's not just a case of improving your health or feeling better the morning after - giving up alcohol actually allows you to enjoy social situations more fully at the time." - David, Dry July participant.

The funds raised will go towards three projects within the Cancer Information and Support Service including:

Refurbishment to our Wig Service and counselling rooms

These rooms will become a more comfortable and supportive environment for the over 200 patients who use the service each year.

Production and design of patient information

The Cancer Services Guide will be released in 2017 and is a one-stop-shop for finding practical, emotional and financial support services.

Information delivery to more Victorians through free educational webinars

Presented by experts, our educational webinars provide an interactive forum through any computer or mobile device. In 2016 Cancer Council Victoria delivered two free webinars: Looking after yourself: when supporting someone with cancer and Clinical consultation skills: Communication and optimal cancer care. Look out for more webinars in 2017.
