Daffodil Day is one of Australia's most well-known and longest running charity events, raising funds and awareness for the fight against cancer. This year you can help celebrate its 30th anniversary by volunteering on Friday August 26, buying and wearing a daffodil pin or dedicating a virtual daffodil for someone you know affected by cancer.
With your support we can continue to fund vital cancer research, prevention programs and support services. Over the past three decades, there have been significant advancements in our understanding of cancer, and the early detection and treatment of it, thanks to the support of the Victorian community.
Great strides have also been made in educating people about how they can cut their cancer risk. Adult daily smoking rates in Victoria are now below 13 per cent thanks in part to the work of Quit Victoria, while melanoma rates are decreasing, particularly amongst the generation who have grown up with SunSmart messages.
This has all led to improving five-year survival rates, which are now at 67 per cent.
Keep an eye out for Daffodil Day stalls across Victoria on August 26 to buy a pin, a Dougal Bear or fresh daffodils (available at selected sites). Or donate and dedicate a daffodil for someone you know via dedicate.daffodilday.com.au
