Regional Wig Service gives people throughout Victoria confidence

Thursday 13 April, 2017

Cancer Council Victoria's free wig serviceOur free Wig Service has recently expanded to offer a postal service, extending its reach to people in regional areas of Victoria undergoing cancer treatment. The service is now available to eligible patients living over 50km outside Melbourne who are unable to travel to the Wig Service for a fitting.

Our free Wig Service offers an extensive range of synthetic wigs along with headscarves, beanies and cotton caps. This service has now been extended to people going through cancer treatment who live in regional Victoria and are unable to come into Melbourne for a fitting.

To make it convenient for people who live over 50km outside Melbourne, it is simply sending a photo and completing a form, including details about hair colour and style, favourite colours and mailing address. Those going through treatment also have the option of requesting beanies, headscarves and sleep caps.

An appropriate wig will be sent out along with resources and care instructions - usually within seven days. One of our 13 11 20 cancer nurses will make a follow up call six weeks after the wig is sent to provide additional support.

To refer patients to our Wig Service, call 13 11 20 or email askanurse@cancervic.org.au

"All my nurse had to do was take a photo of me and complete the form. Cancer Council sent the wig, a wig kit and 2 scarfs (which my granddaughters love to wear when they come to visit). My family and I love the wig and I've already worn it a couple of times." Beris, Hopetoun.
