Because everyone loves a bit of cake and a cuppa!

Meet Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea host, Anna!

Anna knows all too well how cancer can impact a family, having lost both of her parents to the disease – her father in 2005 from stomach cancer, and her mother in 2014 from leukaemia. So, it was an easy choice when she decided to host her first Australia’s Biggest Morning more than 19 years ago in honour of them.

What drew Anna to host the event is that unlike others, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea supports “all different types of cancers,” not just the one.

"It’s a nice morning tea where everyone can get together - and we get to find out who’s been touched by cancer,” says Anna.

“Collectively, we want a cancer-free future, and so for those that haven’t been directly affected by cancer, this event allows us to raise money towards all of that important research, enabling us to get more information on those pressing issues such as skin cancer, smoking; etc,” she emphasises. “There are just too many statistics.”

Anna’s tips for hosting a successful event:

  • Try to involve everyone. Organise catering, bring on a local business, ask staff to volunteer to bring in food; etc.

  • In terms of raising money, hold a raffle. If you can get one major prize, you’ll get a few hundred dollars on top of your entry money.

  • If you can, get your workplace on board by getting them to match any staff donations.

Each morning tea is as unique as the stories behind it, and yours to host your way. This year we’re encouraging hosts to make your Biggest Morning Tea personal. There are many ways to host:

  • Host at home with friends and family

  • Host at the local park with your community

  • Host online via a video chat with your colleagues.

Host your way this May

Almost 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85. We want to change that, and we need your help.

Your morning tea will help raise funds to bring us closer to a cancer free future.
