Study reveals workplace sitting increases bowel cancer risk by 44%

Prolonged sitting at work increases one’s risk of bowel cancer by 44%, a new study published in the International Journal of Epidemiology has revealed.

Inequality in a cancer diagnosis: 51% of all cancer deaths are caused by a ‘forgotten cancer’

Rare and less common cancers are responsible for half of all cancer deaths in Victoria, with five-year survival of some as low as seven per cent. This is in stark contrast to survival of up to 90 percent for more common cancers such as breast cancer, as revealed today by Cancer Council Victoria.

Cancer Council Victoria has launched an ambitious new campaign to lift bowel cancer screening rates in Victoria. We are calling on all health professionals to lend their voice by encouraging their patients to do the test when it arrives at their home as part of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program.

Cancer Council Victoria and Deakin University’s Centre for Organisational Change in Person-Centred Healthcare are partnering to deliver this state-of-the-art event at the luxury RACV resort, Torquay, 9-11 October 2017. Accepted internationally as the ‘gold standard’ in communication skills training, this evidence-based program is open to oncology clinicians.
