Moderate drinking increases risk of breast cancer recurrence

Drinking as little as six grams of alcohol a day – less than one standard drink – has been shown to be associated with a modest increase in risk for women who have had breast cancer, particularly post-menopausal women. These findings from a recent systematic review are the first step in a larger body of work aiming to improve health messaging for people affected by cancer.

Cancer Council Victoria’s Information and Support line is staffed by experienced oncology nurses who are there to help with any questions about cancer. Around 10% of these calls relate to palliative care, prognosis, recurrence and death and dying, topics that are often difficult to deal with amongst family and friends.
