Cancer Council Victoria is calling on the generosity of local
residents to purchase fresh daffodils, a pin, a pen or a bear this Daffodil
Day, Friday 22 August.
By brightening up your day with a splash of yellow, you
will show you care about beating cancer and will support the 80 Victorians
diagnosed with the disease each year.
This year’s new range includes the best-selling enamel
pin ($5), daffodil pens ($6), the cute and collectable ‘fitness’ Dougal Bear
($10) and of course bunches of fresh daffodils.
More than
20,000 daffodils, the international symbol of hope for everyone living with cancer,
will be sold in Victoria alone.
This year’s
bloom of daffodils will be available at 300 street stalls on Daffodil Day manned
by more than 2000 volunteers. You’ll find Daffodil Day sites near your local shopping area, train and bus stations and
other major locations.
Cancer
Council spokesperson Lisa Kastaniotis said it’s thanks to generous Victorians
that the Cancer Council is able to continue its work in cancer research,
support and prevention.
“Victorians
are wonderful supporters of Daffodil Day and local involvement is integral to
help us reach our $1.65 million target.
“Getting
involved is easy! You can purchase an item from the Daffodil Day range at
selected outlets during August**,
and on Daffodil Day itself, Friday 22nd August,” Ms Kastaniotis said.
“You can help
us work towards better treatments, hope for more survivors, and a cancer-free
future by buying yellow this Daffodil Day.”
Merchandise is also available now at Coles Supermarkets, including limited
edition environment bags, fresh cut daffodils and fresh, potted daffodils.
Coles Express
and Coles Supermarkets are Cancer Council’s national supporters, and have been
pin partners for Daffodil Day for 19
years. Funds raised through Coles and Coles Express will be directed to
Cancer Council’s support services in local communities across Australia.
For the first time, you
can find your nearest Daffodil Day merchandise location using an interactive
map on the Daffodil Day website. Click here for pin
