Australia's Biggest Morning Tea

Host your way this May or June to support cancer research

Rally your girlfriends for Girls Night In

Thursday 2 September, 2010

Don't feel like shaving your head or running a marathon? Then get your girls together and have some fun!

This October, thousands of women across Australia will be hosting a Girls Night In to raise funds for women's cancers.

And if you register today, you have the chance to win a $5000 girls getaway thanks to Qantas!

Taking part is easy - simply pick a date in October, invite your girlfriends over and donate what you would normally spend on a night out.

Anything goes at your Girls Night In, from slumber parties to book clubs, a games night or even a dinner party, so long as you're supporting Cancer Council.

Every dollar will help fund our life-saving cancer research, prevention programs and support services for women facing breast cancer and gynaecological cancers.

One Victorian woman who knows just how invaluable our support services are is Heather Cameron, a single mother of two young boys who one day found a lump in her breast.

Not knowing how to cope with her diagnosis, surgery and treatment, she reached out to the Cancer Council Helpline (13 11 20) and was connected to a trained volunteer who had been through a similar cancer experience.

"For me, living with cancer seemed extraordinarily difficult," she says.

"It was better to be able to talk with someone who wasn't emotionally involved with me, because I could be honest. You can't say ‘it's not going well' to someone who loves you and who wants you to get better and live."

"The volunteer would say ‘I know, I remember feeling this way, but it passes'. It just sort of gave me a light at the end of a tunnel."

We couldn't provide these services without your help.

So rally your girlfriends for Girls Night In, have fun and help fight women's cancers! Are you in?
