An article on the front page of the Herald Sun today reports that BreastScreen Victoria is re-reading mammograms initially examined between 16 September and 6 October 2010.
BreastScreen is directly contacting 5,339 women as it believes the mammograms of a small number of them may not have been reviewed by two separate radiologists, which is a standard BreastScreen procedure.
These women will be personally notified by mail over the next two days that two radiologists will review their mammograms and that they will have the results of this review before Christmas.
If you have had a mammogram by BreastScreen Victoria and you’re concerned about the results, you can contact BreastScreen Victoria on 13 20 50 or visit www.breastscreen.org.au
If you have any questions about mammograms or breast cancer in general, feel free to speak to one of our cancer nurses on the Cancer Council helpline – 13 11 20.
