Cancer Council Victoria welcomes today's announcement by the Australian Government that it will merge Cancer Australia and the National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre (NBOCC).
Cancer Council Director, Professor David Hill AO, praised the work and achievements of both organisations, and said that the formation of a single entity would consolidate the considerable body of work each had already developed.
"The benefits to Victorians from both of these organisations - particularly their focus on establishing a strong evidence base in the areas of ovarian and breast cancer, primarily through a strong focus on clinical trial research - has been significant over the years. The proposed new organisation will ensure that research, treatment and support remain collaborative and sustainable, well into the future," Professor Hill said.
A combination of the skill and talents of staff from both organisations, coupled with long-term collaboration on key projects, will go a long way to strengthening our ability to control the incidence of cancer in Australia."
