Relay For Life has kicked off 2010 with a flying start by celebrating a momentous milestone.
Warrnambool Relay For Life, now in its 8th year, recently announced their 2010 fundraising total of $145,000. This means they have raised more than $1 million for Cancer Council Victoria's cancer research, cancer support and cancer prevention programs.
Chairmanager Louise Richards was delighted with the outcome. "It is such a rewarding event to be involved with;over 1300 people attended the event. It's fantastic to see that support in the community. There are so many passionate people in the Warrnambool area who help grow the event year after year. "
"This milestone reflects the hard work by the dedicated volunteer organising committee, teams and the wider Warrnambool community." Ms Richards said.
With more than 25,000 Victorians diagnosed with cancer every year, Ms Richard said Relay For Life is a great way to fight back against cancer.
"We all know someone that has been affected by cancer whether they be a family member, friend or colleague." Ms Richards said. "Relay For Life is a great opportunity to tackle this fight together as a community and raise much needed funds."
