Providing a creative voice for Australians touched by cancer, Cancer Council Victoria is proud to bring its inspiring Arts Awards to Shepparton from 6 October to 25 October 2009.
The free public exhibition will be held at the Shepparton Art Gallery, Eastbank Centre Welsford Street, Shepparton and will include an artistic creation by Shepparton resident, Tess Giuliani.
Tess Giuliani’s moving written piece titled “Positive Spirits to Embrace” was selected for exhibition in the Poetry category in this year’s awards.
The 2009 Arts Awards theme 'Embrace' inspired hundreds of Australian artists to embrace the opportunity to share their cancer experience creatively through visual art, poetry and prose, film, Indigenous art, and children’s artworks.
Cancer Council spokesperson, Irene Manitta, said the Arts Awards Exhibition brought together the most outstanding artworks in a powerful and moving display.
“All the artists in this year’s exhibition convey their cancer story with incredible honesty, warmth and courage. By sharing their experience through creative expression, they have a unique opportunity to remember loved ones, help others understand and provide a sense of hope for those affected by cancer,” Ms Manitta said.
An official opening of the Shepparton Arts Awards Exhibition will be held on Tuesday 6 October from 6pm-8pm at the Shepparton Art Gallery. All are welcome to attend. Free to the public, the Shepparton exhibition then runs until 25 October before it tours to its final destination, Meeniyan, in November.
