Yarra Ranges Relay For Life is back for 2009
Yarra Ranges residents are preparing for what organisers expect to be the most memorable local event this year – the Cancer Council Victoria’s Yarra Ranges Relay For Life.
Yarra Ranges Relay For Life Coordinator Judi Buhagiar said the community event is a chance for local residents to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost and fight back against cancer.
“The Yarra Ranges community has produced fantastic events in the past with 2,700 local participants. The 2009 Relay For Life event will be no different, and as we do each year, we will honour all locals who have ever experienced cancer,” Ms Buhagiar said.
Ms Buhagiar said Relay For Life was a fantastic opportunity to support the community and urged local residents to get involved.
“We are seeking enthusiastic local residents to join the committee in organising this Relay For Life. This is a community focused event, so it is important local residents have a say in how the event is run,” Ms Buhagiar said.
“The committee meets once a month, contributing where they can. We’re looking for people who have a variety of skills to make this event a success, including administration, logistics, publicity and catering,” she said.
Yarra Ranges Relay For Life will have a direct impact on the local community by helping the Cancer Council provide cancer education and support to all regional areas, as well as funding research for the benefit of every Victorian.
The Yarra Ranges Relay For Life will take place at Morrison Reserve, commencing at 4pm on Saturday 7 November 2009. During the event, local groups will take turns walking or running through the night to raise funds for the Cancer Council’s world-class cancer research, education and support programs.
