Cancer Council Victoria and the local Relay For Life Volunteer Organising Committee today announced the postponement of the Colac Relay For Life event.
Initially scheduled to take place on 28 February and 1 March, the event will now be held in Colac during October or November.
"Postponing an event is never an easy decision," Relay For Life State Manager Anthony Keogh said.
"However, we want to ensure that all Colac residents have an opportunity to join in this great event, and rescheduling to later in the year offers us the best chance to do this," he said.
Since 2004, teams of Colac locals have come together at annual Relay For Life events, taking turns to walk through the night to raise funds for the Cancer Council. The event has raised more than $408,000, with every dollar raised supporting world-class cancer research, education and support programs.
"It's a remarkable result for a town this size, and I know the local organising committee is excited to see the event continue to grow when it's held again this spring," Mr Keogh said.
Mr Keogh said the event organisers had received positive feedback regarding the rescheduling of the event, particularly from a group wishing to honour the memory of Rosemary Muller, a former Colac Relay For Life Chairmanager.
"I was saddened to hear of Ms Muller's recent passing and am sure she will be greatly missed in Colac," Mr Keogh said.
"Because of this, offering locals a chance to remember Ms Muller will be an important aspect of this year's event," he said.
There are many ways get behind Colac Relay For Life this year. Volunteers are needed to help shape the event by joining the organising committee, new teams are welcomed, and many existing teams are looking for help with their fundraising activities.
