Wyndham's reputation for being generous and supportive is growing with the local community receiving recognition from The Cancer Council Victoria at the recent Relay For Life State Conference.
Wyndham received an award for exceeding $500,000 in fundraising since the local Relay For Life began six years ago. Betty Eddowes, Chairperson of the Wyndham Relay For Life organising committee, accepted the award on behalf of the community.
"Funds raised by Relay For Life events are vital for the Cancer Council and for the work that we do in the Wyndham and wider Victorian community," the Cancer Council's Relay For Life State Manager, Anthony Keogh, said.
"The money raised locally allows us to continue funding life-saving cancer research, world-class education programs and support services to assist people through their cancer experience," he said.
Mr Keogh and Ms Eddowes are inviting all local residents to attend the launch of the 2009 Wyndham Relay For Life. The launch event will be held at 7.30 pm on Thursday 16 October 2009 at the Wyndham City Salvation Army, 211 Watton Street, Werribee, and will showcase new opportunities to get involved in this exciting community event.
The 2009 Wyndham Relay For Life event will be held 28-29 March 2009 at the Victoria University and Wyndham Sports Complex, Hoppers Lane, Werribee.
The event will be part of state-wide celebrations marking ten years since the fundraising event began in Australia.
