Epping resident wins Cancer Council Raffle

Epping resident, Carina Marasco, was the lucky winner of a new Mazda2 Neo in the Cancer Council Victoria Raffle, which raised over $150,000 in 2008.

Ms Marasco said she had never won more than a BMX bike before, and couldn't believe her luck in winning a Mazda2 Neo valued at $20,870.

"I have always supported the Cancer Council Raffle and since cancer has touched my family and friends, I have tried to raise as much money for the Cancer Council as I can," Ms Marasco said.

"It was such a shock to win a new car. You always hear about people winning major raffles, but I never would have imagined I would win a car.

"This is going to make a perfect early Christmas present for my fiancé and I, and I plan to sell my old car and pay off the loan. I couldn't think of a better way to kick of the festive season," she said.

Cancer Council spokesperson, Irene Manitta, said the support from people like Ms Marasco allows the Cancer Council to continue its research, education and support programs for all Victorians.

"I'm thrilled the Mazda2 Neo will go to such a passionate supporter. I would like to thank everyone who brought tickets in this year's Raffle, because without their support we wouldn't have sold 43,000 tickets," Ms Manitta said.

Since 1991, the Raffle has raised more than $3 million for the fight against cancer and every dollar has supported Victorians facing cancer.
