Australia's Biggest Morning Tea is here again, and there's an exciting new addition this year - The Cancer Council Victoria is on hunt for the biggest, brightest, and best teacup.

"The new schools competition encourages young Victorians to get actively involved in the fight against cancer," Cancer Council spokesperson Barbara Fernandez said.

"Children are looking for a tangible way to help make difference to the 1 in 3 Victorians who are diagnosed with cancer each year. The Biggest, Brightest and Best Teacup competition is a fun way for them to involved in this important fundraising event, which is on Thursday 22 May," Ms Fernandez said.

All Victorian schools that register for the Cancer Council's popular fundraising event, Australia's Biggest Morning Tea, will have the opportunity to get creative and make a giant teacup to go in the running to win a great mystery prize.

"We're hoping to raise $1.8 million this year, every dollar of which will make a difference to the 652 City of Darebin residents diagnosed with cancer each year," Ms Fernandez said.

Money raised from Australia's Biggest Morning Tea will help prevent, detect and treat cancer, as well as support those facing cancer by funding the Cancer Council's research, education and prevention programs.

"Sixty years ago only 25% of Victorians survived a cancer diagnosis, today more than 60% survive and this number is growing. By holding an Australia's Biggest Morning Tea at your local school in May, you are taking action to help even more people survive," Ms Fernandez said.

Getting your local schools involved in the teacup competition is easy. Simply describe, in 50 words or fewer, why your school is passionate about Australia's Biggest Morning Tea and attach a digital photo of your giant teacup. The top three finalists will be invited to a Mad Hatter's Tea Party in Melbourne at 11AM on Sunday 18 May for judging, and could win a great prize for their class.

Entries to the Biggest, Brightest, and Best Teacup competition close at 5PM on Monday 5 May. For further details on how to enter the competition or to register as a Australia's Biggest Morning Tea host visit www.biggestmorningtea.com.au or call 1300 65 65 85.
