President of The Cancer Council Victoria, Peter John Griffin AM, has been honoured as a Member of the Order of Australia, awarded on the 2008 Queen's Birthday honours list announced by the Governor General.
Mr Griffin's award was for service to the community through support for health, medical research, arts and charitable organisations, and to business, particularly in the investment and banking sectors.
Since 1993 Mr Griffin has been a member of The Cancer Council Victoria's Executive Committee and Finance Committee. He is also on the Board of the Victorian Breast Cancer Research Consortium.
He has brought a wealth of business knowledge and experience to these posts and is a the Chair of Karara Capital Limited and a director of Rothschild Australia Limited, Global Mining Investments Limited, the Murdoch Children's Research Institute and the Melbourne Community Foundation.
"Mr Griffin's contribution to our organisation and the cancer community in Victoria has been enormous," Professor David Hill, Director of The Cancer Council Victoria said. "He has overseen significant changes in business practices and growth in our organisation and has provided vital direction and leadership to the various committees on which he has served."
