Host your way this May or June to support cancer research

Last chance for local sports clubs to join Call To Arms

Friday 18 July, 2008

Time is running out for local sporting clubs to join the 470 Victorian clubs that have already registered for The Cancer Council Victoria's Call To Arms event to fight back against cancer in men.

Cancer Council spokesperson, Irene Manitta said that every day 36 Victorian men hear the words ‘you have cancer' and Call To Arms is a great way for men to fight back.

"Call To Arms gives sporting clubs of all codes the ability to help save the lives of men facing cancer throughout Victoria. All funds raised will support the Cancer Council's lifesaving cancer research, education programs to help Victorian men reduce their cancer risk and support services for people affected by cancer," Ms Manitta said.

"We've had a great response from clubs so far - now we're urging all local clubs to join in too," she said.

A community sporting event run in conjunction with Essendon Football Club, Call To Arms, asks sporting clubs to wear a yellow armband and fundraise for the Cancer Council during a match on 26 and 27 July. Some clubs may also elect to host their event on an alternative weekend.
